Anzac Day
Very moving to see so many people coming out to support Dawn Services around the country. Services at RSL's were also well attended and the turn out for the parade in the city is the biggest I have seen

Eclipse of the Moon
We were lucky enough to witness an eclipse of the moon last night. The Moon also looked larger than normal to me early this morning. There is another even rarer event today - the transit of Venus across the face of the Sun. Unfortunately I do not have the correct filters to photograph it and it will be 105 years until it happens again! The moon will have to do
Mater Family Fun Day Sunday 3rd June 2012
The weather did not look very promising, even the tops of building were wreathed in clouds, but that did not put off hundreds of people walking and running to raise funds to make 'little miracles' happen for sick children and babies.
There was no need for the free sunscreen as the rain held off and hundreds of people, many dressed as super heroes, began the walk while the City Of Brisbane Pipe Band played. They had a lovely route to follow along the South Bank with fantastic views of the river and the city on one side and the man-made lagoon and park on the other.
The money raised will go towards Mater Mothers and Mater Children's Hospitals with further events throughout Queensland until July.

The band played until the last of the walkers had gone before heading off to the Botanic Gardens at Mount Coot-tha to play in the bandstand

Our journey to Brisbane was a long one; nearly 7 hours to get to Dubai and another 14 to get to Australia. Actually we reached Oz after 8 hours but it takes 6 hours to fly across this vast country/island/continent. Although I had been to work and went straight to the airport to fly here and consequently was very tired, I hardly slept on the plane. My son slept 10 hours on the last leg and woke up with a cheery
'Nearly here, didn't take long' (how annoying)
When we got to the appartment my first priority was sleep and I fell asleep straight away only to be woken a couple of hours later by pteradactyls! Surely that awful screeching must be something huge and hungry. It turned out to be their more diminuitive relatives the cockatoos. Pretty though they are I can't believe the noise they make.
They also have incredible eyesight and spotted the sunflowers as they flew passed the apartment. They don't roost near us so we don't get disturbed by them very often but they fly passed nearly day most of the year.
One in particular enjoyed eating the flowers and even perched on them to strip them. It shows how light they are as the vase had very little water in it and was not very heavy.
Makes a change from sparrows!

Hello
Moved to Brisbane in November 2010 and I love it. City living but clean and green with lots of parks and open spaces. So much to see and do within the city or a short drive away. Add great weather and friendly Aussies - enjoy!
